At the beginning of a new millennium, and with the Bicentennial of the Independence of Mexico just months away, the much heralded Italian manufacturer of writing instruments, TIBALDI together with the gifted artist Lorena Straffi from the Artechant Studio, (London, England) will offer to the public as of September 2009 this impressive master piece.
In this first edition of the “Bicentennial of the Independence of Mexico” of the Mexico Collection, “The Cry of Dolores” is commemorated. It brings to life the character and bravery, of Father Miguel Hidalgo y Castilla, considered the “Father of the Country”. It also includes the image of the sculpture of the Angel of Independence, which was designed by Antonio Rivas Mercado, carried out by Engineer Roberto Gayol and sculptured by a team headed by the Italian artist Enrique Alciati. This iconic monument was the center of the festivities honoring the Centennial of the Independence of Mexico, one hundred years ago. It has become one of the most renowned architectural landmarks in Mexico City.
The personality and tenacity of Hidalgo, this clergy and military man, as well as the theology and philosophy teacher, gave way to the first uprisings of independence in Mexico. It started an irreversible and historic process that 11 years later would end up with Mexico as a free and independent nation.
Hidalgo´s famous “Cry of Dolores”, which refers to the name of the town and church where he gave his call for independence, was taken up by the army and communities all along the vast Mexican territory, even before he was declared Commander in Chief of the insurrectionist armies.
Hidalgo’s “Cry of Dolores” is more than just a historical fact: his voice keeps being heard, after almost two hundred years. The “Cry of Dolores” does not stop: it gives way to a world, a space and a time that shelters and nourishes us, inciting us to participate, to play the leading role of our common destiny.
The “Bicentennial of the Independence of Mexico” limited edition, is made up of 400 sets, each made up of a fountain pen and roller ball, individually numbered and certified by TIBALDI, and custom made by request of the owner.
The initials and/or the coat of arms of the owner will be engraved on the clip. This commemorative piece is presented in a magnificent wooden case crowned with a custom-made engraving of the Angel of the Independence.
Each one of the pieces is unique, painted and decorated by the expert hand of the gifted artist Lorena Straffi, master of the ancient technique of air brush painting. Besides her active role in the Haute Ecriture´s world, Straffi has been chosen by collectors of the world and luxury cars manufacturers, more than fifteen years ago, as Grand Maestre of miniature painting.
In the design of the writing instruments edition of the “Bicentennial of the Independence of Mexico” by Tibaldi, the Italian artist recreated, over the black resin fusiform barrel, used as the characteristic canvas of the Tibaldi writing instruments, the contemplative figure of Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla sitting in front of his desk. This image property of the Mexican Nation, is reproduced with the authorization and certification of fidelity by the Anthropology and History National Institute.
A rich palette of ocher tones celebrates with solemnity and sophistication the emblematic scene. At the same time it blends in a chromatic harmony with the delicate details in silver Vermeil of this writing instrument.
On the cap, the iconic figure of the Angel of Independence is skillfully reproduced by the artist with the authorization and certification of fidelity of the Fine Arts and Literature National Institute, 2009.
