THE MONTEGRAPPA MINI COPPER MULE

It’s copper, compact and impossibly cute – perfectly suited for any pocket, pencil case, purse or tool roll and available to order in fountain pen, rollerball and ballpoint modes.

The Mini Mule has been engineered to use smaller 5mm steel nibs (F, M, B), taking a standard convertor or cartridges and refills as conventional Fortuna models.

The new Mini Mule shares the same anti-microbial properties as its older sibling, as well as the patina and imperfections unique to copper. Like a Moleskine or a Traveler’s Company notebook, its changing appearance records the places it has been. Owners will thrill as they observe it ageing gracefully with use. A true workhorse!

The Mule program, and the creation of the Montegrappa Mule by Bassano’s own Danieli Bar have provided one of the most warmly received Montegrappa stories of recent years, attracting interest from lifestyle and cuisine editors. Montegrappa is proud to introduce the “Chai” Collection, the latest version of the Shema Series which celebrates the Jewish symbol for life and all living things.

The word for life in Hebrew is “Chai”, made omnipresent by the two letters that form the symbol : חי, This “Chai” Symbol encompasses all the values and beliefs which Judaism venerates.

Based on the classic Shema Fortuna pen model, the “Chai” Collection is made of a Special teak wood which has treated with a unique oil. Each pen is laser-engraved with motifs that complement the Hebrew text, including an olive branch, a menorah, the word “Chai” in Hebrew and Stars of David encircling the metal sections. Because teak is a natural material, each pen will acquire a unique patina over time. Like its name signifies, teak is a living material, truly appropriate for a pen that celebrates life.

Inspiration comes to us at Montegrappa from a variety of sources and places and events and objects. All celebrate some aspect of life, and what enriches it. In the wake of the great success of the Mule line, inspired by a famous cocktail, we looked again at another favourite tipple, the Blue Blazer.
An enticing mix of scotch, boiling water and powdered sugar, the Blue Blazer earns its incendiary name from the theatre that accompanies it: the drink is set alight. Celebrating its 155th birthday this year, the Blue Blazer is said to be the first cocktail to undergo the touch of the flame. Most distinctively, the drink is prepared with two large tankards, between which the stream of flame travels.
Our Montegrappa Blazer is based on the Fortuna shape, but with its cap and body made, appropriately, of fire-burnished stainless steel with a vintage-looking brushed silver trim. The polished steel surface of the pen barrel and cap basks in bluish, iridescent shades, just as a heated metal would do.
Available as fountain, rollerball and ballpoint pens, the fountain pen’s nib will be made in steel and will carry Montegrappa’s filigree etching. It will be offered in the writing grades of Fine, Medium and Broad, and is converter or cartridge-fed.
As a companion to the Mule, the Montegrappa Blazer will appeal to those who value authenticity, craft and a good, stiff drink. To assist in this pursuit, every Blazer pen will be delivered with a special Blazer tankard as a gift, as is traditionally used to prepare the drink and customized with the new logo. Celebrating even further the joys of the Blazer is our new, Italian spin on the classic, made with grappa, sugar, cinnamon and orange essential oils!

Our most versatile and successful pen family of recent years is Fortuna, which has provided us with a perfect “canvas” for expressing all manner of moods and emotions. With combat boots, cargo trousers, military wristwatches, aviator sunglasses, NATO-style watch straps, tattoos and other elements of the world’s services appealing to civilians, we figured, why not a pen? And why not dress it up in its own fatigues?
Called “The Camouflage Collection”, the new pen is available in the three main forms of fountain pen, rollerball and ballpoint. The earth-tone camouflage patterns follow genuine military design criteria, realised in resin with brushed bronze-plated trim. For those who insist, however, on military precision, the technical term for the colour is “IP dark brown.” The fountain pen is both cartridge- and converter-fed, with nib in stainless steel and bearing the octagonal Montegrappa motif etching. It is offered in the standard writing grades of fine, medium and broad.
As with any military issue, the accessories are a major part of the experience. Every Camouflage pen is supplied in a tin field box, resembling a medic’s first aid kit, and the set comes with dog tags and a special key-ring, bearing a “military” target. Within a stone’s throw of the Montegrappa works – home of the oldest pen manufacture in Italy – is the heart of another industry. Grappa is the local tipple, and it has never been more popular, finding new friends in bars and saloons from Mumbai to Manhattan to Macau. Following the success of the spectacular limited edition Grappa pen in hammered copper, Montegrappa again honours the locals’ favourite beverage with a pen inspired by both the drink and the equipment that distills it.

Featuring a shape that is classic Montegrappa, curvaceous yet sleekly contemporary, the Montegrappa Mule pen collection further displays its familial links with a cap top bearing the famous “1912” logo, while the nib is embellished with a filigree Montegrappa pattern. The cap and barrel are crafted in mirror-polished copper, further defined by a brushed silver-plated trim. The effect recalls the well-used, vintage piping and tubing employed in the process of producing grappa. Over the time, each Montegrappa Mule will acquire its own unique patina through handling by its fond owner, truly personalizing the writing instrument. Easily recyclable without any loss of property, copper is a naturally hygienic metal that slows down the growth of germs. Fortuna was the Goddess of Fortune, the personification of luck according to the ancient Romans. Fortuna’s identity as the embodiment of chance events was closely tied to virtus, or strength of character. Public officials who lacked this quality invited ill-fortune on both themselves and Rome.

At Montegrappa, we believe that luck is indubitably linked to virtue, while education is the foundation onto which an individual develops and nurtures his or her innate talents. We also believe that hand-writing is an essential element of the education process and an indispensable function, even in today’s hurried, digitized society.

For this reason, we have created the Fortuna collection, with an eye to those who still indulge in the pleasure of writing. It is our wish that these pens will engender the good luck that they deserve. With Fortuna Credo, Montegrappa has applied the same sense of destiny to the great monotheistic religions that supplanted those of the ancient civilizations.

Credo Shema Yisroel pays tribute to the prayer as a part of religious culture. The barrel of the writing instrument is decorated with engraving of the prayer Shema Yisrael (Hebrew ,עַמְׁש`Listen ‘), proclaiming the main idea of Judaism – the unity of God and the indissoluble union of the Jewish people with God. It translates into, “Hear, O Israel, the Lord Our God, The Lord In One.” On the cap is the Star of David. Opening it reveals the word for life in Hebrew and a pattern of interlaced Stars of David, while the barrel also features an engraving of a palm branch, a classic symbol of peace. The nib of the fountain pen is decorated with engraving of the Star of David.
